Inclement Weather and Sunday Obligation
To: All priests, parishes and missions
Bishop Fabre wanted to communicate to all parishes that, in preparation for the inclement icy weather that might complicate Mass schedules this weekend in various regions of our state, the Sunday obligation may be fulfilled on Saturday evening as normal. Please encourage parishioners to try to go earlier. The bishop asks all parishioners and parish leaders to exercise caution and to stay safe on the roads. No dispensation from the obligation to attend is being made at this time, but no one should travel to attend Mass if to do so would endanger life or limb. Each pastor is free to cancel Masses on Sunday if local travel would be dangerous because of frozen roads. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
“Entrust your works to the LORD, and your plans will succeed” (Prv 16:3).
